Update: Works on Windows 10! Another upgrade: Windows 10 Anniversary Update (ver. However, there is another solution, check here. Windows 8 doesn’t are the classic solitaire card games (and Mahjong and inkball) contained in Vista/7 (or XP). Instead you have to download them from the Windows store and they aren’t as good as the older video games.
First you need to find your Microsoft video games folder. To do this click on start, then right-click on Computer, then left-click on Explore. This opens Windows Explorer. Right select Microsoft Games and copy the folder. 32-bit programs go. All of the solitaire games are 32 little bit, don’t mistake yourself with whether or not you’re using 64-bit Windows, no matter. Copy this by choosing and right-clicking copy. Then paste this to your USB stick (or copy through your network) identical to you did with your Microsoft Games folder. Copy the CardGames.dll file to each of the games folders or they won’t work (they will say they can not find the file).
You should save your valuable high scores and win streaks as well. Microsoft Games and duplicate that folder to your USB stay, too. If Windows 8 gets fussy in what you’re doing in this program Files folder, you will need to log on as Administrator. Or do the next steps on your old Vista/7 machine.
Now you need to install a program that can edit the games applications. This looks scary but it’s very easy as you will see. Download the zip document, remove it to the folder of your choice, double-click the “setup.exe” file, set it up to the same folder and run the planned program. It will appear to be this.

The document will open and you will see a bunch of columns of “hex” figures (0-9, A-F) and a column of text message translations of the hex pairs. Use Search-Find to get this done. The comparative range may begin in the middle of these columns, or not. Find the appropriate string Just. Make sure you choose “Hex-values” as well.
I just sought out “7D 04 83” that was sufficient. The EB shall be highlighted in red. File-Save the program Now. That’s all. Your game will continue to work now in Windows 8. Get this to edit for each game in the Microsoft Games folder (except inkball, it is not needed). Navigate back again to the Microsoft Games folder Then, right click and then click “Send to Desktop” to put an icon for the game on your desktop and that means you can find it easier.
This contains all of your scores and win streaks and also backups of those in the event you damage a win streak and want to restore it. If you want to begin fresh skip this step just. XP notes: Rather than moving “CardGames.dll” (because it doesn’t exist) you merely move the file “cards.dll” and I don’t think you have to do any hex editing and enhancing of the video games (haven’t attempted it yet, I’m happy with the Vista versions). A Google search will show a “patch” circulating that will do the above editing for you, if you trust the program, go on and try it.
